Private Functions at The Fifth Province - St Kilda's Most Icoinc Irish Pub

The Fifth Province is one of St Kilda's most well-loved Irish pubs — and one of its most flexible function venues. Whether you're planning a milestone birthday, an EOFY celebration, a wedding rehearsal, a corporate dinner, or a gathering that doesn't fit neatly into any category, there's a space here that works.

Our Spaces In-Depth:

  • The Carriage Bar Quarter

  • The Carriage Bar

  • The Verandah

  • The Whiskey Bar

  • The Public Bar

  • The Lounge

What makes it different from a conventional function venue is simple. It's still a pub. The Guinness is still on tap, the whiskey list is still running deep, and the atmosphere is still The Fifth Province — just with the privacy, the dedicated service, and the tailored packages that come with well considered hospitality and functions bookings.

Food and beverage packages can be built around whatever the occasion calls for — Irish pub classics, shared plates and canapés, curated drink lists featuring Guinness, boutique wines, and premium whiskies. The functions team handles the detail so your night is looked after.

Here's a closer look at the spaces available:

The Carriage Bar Quarter

The largest of the function spaces, The Carriage Bar Quarter combines The Carriage Bar and the entire Verandah into one connected footprint — accommodating up to 150 standing and a seated capacity to be confirmed with the functions team.

The layout gives events room to breathe. Guests can move between the bar, the fireplace, seated areas, and open spaces without the event feeling static or formal. It suits larger celebrations that still want to feel personal — milestone birthdays, engagements, Christmas parties, corporate events, and group dinners that carry on past the last course.

Configurations include open cocktail-style standing with high tables, long table dining across the extended Verandah, mixed dining and mingling setups, and presentations or speeches with clear sightlines across the space.

The Carriage Bar

The Carriage Bar is the heart of the functions offering — a private Irish pub experience with the character and comfort The Fifth Province is known for. Harlequin tiles, deep timber, plenty of green. It looks like The Fifth because it is The Fifth, just yours for the night.

Capacity runs to 30 seated or 120 standing, with a dedicated bar and seamless flow through to the heated Verandah. A 62-inch screen handles presentations and speeches. A quality sound system means dancing or a DJ is well within scope.

Best suited to birthdays, engagements, private celebrations, casual corporate events, and festive gatherings. The space can be configured for open cocktail-style events, mixed seated and standing layouts, private bar settings centred around drinks and shared plates, or performances and speeches with a clear host point near the bar or fireplace.

The Verandah

The Verandah is a heated outdoor space that seats up to 30 or holds 50 standing — relaxed, social, and well suited to events that want the energy of the pub without being in the thick of it.

Good for casual celebrations, after-work drinks, long lunches, smaller birthday gatherings, and pre-dinner drinks that tend to run long. Configurations include casual seated dining, cocktail-style standing, mixed seating, and long lunch setups with shared plates across the afternoon.

The Beer Garden

Open-air and built for a session. The Beer Garden holds up to 70 seated or 100 standing, with flexible seating, standing room, bar access, and a 120-inch screen for sporting occasions.

Suits casual celebrations, sporting events, after-work drinks, and groups looking for a lively atmosphere with room to move. Configurations cover casual pub-style seating, cocktail-style standing, and sporting event layouts arranged around the screen.

The Whiskey Bar

The most intimate of the spaces — up to 35 seated or 50 standing, with the bar as its centrepiece and the whiskey list as its drawcard.

The whiskey menu spans several cabinets and changes constantly. The wine list and cocktail menu — built on local and Irish ingredients — run alongside it. It's the space for smaller gatherings that want to feel considered: whiskey tastings, birthday drinks, client entertaining, and private celebrations where the conversation matters as much as the occasion.

Configurations include cocktail-style high tables with the bar as the focal point, seated drinks with low tables for smaller groups, and tasting formats with guests facing the bar or host area for guided whiskey flights.

The Public Bar

For smaller or more casual functions, part of the Public Bar may be available — complete with the full pub atmosphere, the bric-a-brac, and the main menu. Contact the functions team directly to discuss whether this works for your event.

The Lounge

Tucked within the Public Bar, the Lounge offers a semi-private space with a large stage and 150-inch TV — well suited to intimate gatherings, private screenings, and milestone celebrations. Capacity runs to 30 seated or 50 standing, with TV, music, and AV available.

Whatever the craic The Fifth Province has a space for it.
